Caught this last night by chance. The girl they talked to didnt seem to convincing to me. She was giggling and laughing alot like it was funny to here. But as they said on the report this happens with most petitions.

Anyone know what the bill they passed says ? I assume and hope it will give greater penalty for people who use this tactic.

Regarding Angela McElroy, the girl who was doing the fraud live on camera, the giggling was probably out of nervousness. She testified in the Election committee hearing and recounted that this was sort of "a game" to most of the paid petitioners. She even remembers a few nights when they got together in their hotel rooms and joked about how many gay people that they actually were able to trick into signing the petition to stop same-sex marriage.

According to Angela, one paid signature gatherer boasted a total of unsuspecting gays he managed to dupe in one evening at 14!

I don't fear what Massachusetts would do if every voter had to sit down, listen to an objective explanation of the proposed referendum, and then vote on it.

But I know better. The same hypocritical crowd that screams "praise jesus" out of the left side of their mouth lies to petition signers out of the right side of their mouth. Sure, they hire known liars to do the deed for them, but that's no cover. Then, once the petition makes it, they'll lie about what it means. They use scare tactics telling people about children being forced to discuss gay sex, Christians being sued for refusing to approve of gays, pastors being prosecuted if they preach that marriage is a male-female union. This same lying God crowd did all this and much worse in Colorado when putting Amendment 2 before the voters of Colorado. Amendment 2 passed because of the dishonest, unChristlike, unfettered vitriol that came out of their mouths, and the Supreme Court had to strike down that ridiculous amendment. So, no, I don't fear Mass voters, I do fear a scenario where a multimillion dollar campaign of deceit is waged by Southern right wingers who'll invoke pedophilia and bestiality and whatever else is necessary into scaring people into misunderstanding what the vote is for. So, let's call a liar a liar now. Good work Fox. Shame on you, liars. Even worse, shame on your for lying in the name of "family" and God.

The "many" groups of which they speak are the subcontractors of Arno Political Consultants. Arno uses these types of people to "get the job done."

The real story here is the coverup coming from the Massachusetts Family Institute. They knew EXACTLY who they were hiring and what Arno's people are capable of. Before I would write a check as large as the one that they must have written Arno, I am sure that they at least "once" googled this company.

I look at ALL the abuse also. As well as does Senator Augustus and the House and Senate which are reviewing his bill.

Arno is the type of company that EVERYONE uses--not just the conservatives. Massachusetts is not that familiar with these types of tactics. Let's not forget that the Food Association, Stop and Shop etc hired these paid signature gatherers also.

Even if the laws are strict against this sort of fraud and Augustus' Bill passes the House, the general public will still need to police the fraud. And hopefully, with enough badgering from citizen's groups such as KTN.org, the Secretary of the Commonwealth will provide an open and transparent forum with the public in order to open up this initiative petition process.

I agree with you, Massachusetts is a bit "gun shy" right now when it comes to signing ANY petition because of this alleged fraud. We all need to feel safe that the government is there for us in order for the other petitions to be taken seriously.

Henry the trouble with your point is that the Christian right is supposed to be taking the high road on everything, and by hiring people who they know are going to lie cheat and steal their way into success, they taint themselves and can no longer preach from a higher moral ground like they pretend to have. You cannot have bad people doing bad things in your name and call it good.

Now that this has been exposed we should do something about it for ALL petitions and make sure it does not happen anymore for every cause not just this one. But I do understand this site centralizes one cause and not all. The story used this as an example but also stated this is common practice with this service.

People can blame one organization on it but fact is it happens with a lot of petitions. Lets not get that fact lost just because this one cause is important to people here. While others are not as important.

I went to the election committee hearing and spoke on behalf of ALL people giving my own thoughts and examples of what we could do to make sure this doesn't happen again with ANY electoral petition. My point is that the Christian right wants to be able to say God so moves them. Then they lie, cheat, and steal signatures in order to accomlish the cause they say is backed by God. Is that how He opperates? The ends do not justify the means. Might does not make right. A single word DOES have that much power. I have 19 expamples of peolpe in unmarked graves around my town that prefered to die than utter the word; "Guilty."

I am a good neighbor, when everybody is done being angry, give me a call and get to know me better. I will end up being a friend more likely than not. I raise my milk glass to out future.
